Product Description

Do you enjoy sewing and creating garments at home? However you find the challenge lies in getting a perfect fit for your individual shape and size. Do you struggle to fit garments on your figure?

Our Make a Mannequin class will teach you how to create a mannequin that resembles your individual shape and size. You will solve the problem of trying to fit garments on yourself and instead find the process of fitting items on your mannequin easy, automatically improving the ability to achieve a ‘great fit’.  Over the course of 2 days we will work together to perfect your ‘Mannequin Self’.

  • Take exact body measurements
  • Techniques to build up the mannequin
  • Draping a calico shell
  • How to fit garments on your mannequin

Level: It is necessary to have previous sewing and dressmaking experience, so that you have an understanding of garment construction and patterns. If you would like to brush up on your dressmaking skills please join a Dressmaking class.

Material: Please bring along a mannequin for use during the course. We recommend a cheap mannequin that is not adjustable and should be purchased based on your frame size (example, the mannequin must be smaller than your smallest measurement). You will need to bring along a good fitting bra for use on the mannequin, as well as 2 metres of calico and wadding (we have calico and wadding available to purchase). A sewing machine is not required.

I came to the class at the beginning of October not knowing quite what to expect, but we all had a very good time. Aneka made the whole process so clear and easy, taking infinite care with measurements and structure. The weekend disappeared in stuffing, stitching and laughter. My ‘Flossie’ isn’t quite finished yet, but I am looking forward to having her to help with my sewing in the future. I’ll be back for more classes!

What an enjoyable couple of days! I arrived with a rather sad mannequin that had never done the job and left with a duplicate of myself. Just a few things to finish her off and make her look neat were completed at home following Anneka’s instructions, and we are ready to sew. I would recommend this course on two levels – as a very pleasant way to spend a couple of days with other people who love to sew, and as a major step towards garments that fit. And Anneka is a very good teacher.

Great couple of days making a very useful addition to my sewing room equipment. The new form is much closer to my actual dimensions and is invaluable for things like fancy draped elements on dresses and setting in sleeves for jackets. Highly recommended for any serious dressmakers!

    (verified owner):

Fun weekend spent measuring, padding and covering a dress form. As ever, time over the two days just disappeared and I haven’t quite finished with my mannequin. Be warned, there is a lot of hand-sewing involved in the course and the type of dress form you start with can make the process a little easier on the fingers. Another couple of hours work and I’m looking forward to having a useful piece of sewing equipment as opposed to a glorified coat-hanger.
